I am trying to install Nitro. I'm fairly new to web design and especially the command prompt. The documentation instructs users to install Docker and then run this command:

bash <(curl -sLS http://installer.getnitro.sh)

When I do this, it says:

Error: unable to start the nitro container, Error response from daemon: Ports are not available: port is already allocated.

Before my brother had set me up with a MariaDB, and fwiw I closed that. I believe it needs port 3000, but I ran

sudo lsof -PiTCP -sTCP: Listen

And yet the list did not include Port 3000 at all. So that means it is free, right? Again, I'm very new to this so I may be overlooking something silly. Big thanks in advance for any help in solving this!

  • Welcome, Blake! If port 3000 is the source of conflict here, MariaDB shouldn’t be relevant—its default is port 3036. Can you run nitro portcheck 3000 and make sure it thinks that’s in use? (This may be easier to troubleshoot in Discord if you’d like to pop by.)
